Miss Empire Layout # 2

Today I'm sharing one more layout I made using the Miss Empire Collection.

I had this awesome family photo, but it has so many colours in it... so much going on with all the clothes and plants and its quite dark in patches. I felt like it would be impossible to co-ordinate colours as there were just too many. So when I was looking over the misse Empire range of papers it occurred to me that they were mostly dark tones with a few random bright colours added.... very similar to my photo!

And I must say I'm really pleased at how the two married together... I'll be remembering this range for difficult photos in the future now! LOL

My favourite thing on this whole page is the paper flowers in the two opposing corners ... they were so easy to make and I was wondering if they would really work as I used some very patterned paper to make them with, but as it turned out... they worked beautifully!

I'll have to be braver with my paper choice for flowers in the future I think!!

Thanks for stopping by for a look.

Miss Empire Layout

Today I'm sharing my first layout with the Miss Empire Collection.

This is vintage beauty of a collection that reminds me a lot of the Madame Boutique Collection that Kaisercraft released a couple of years ago... it would marry perfectly with it I'm sure!

For this layout I decided to delve deep into the family photo album to find an appropriate print to use, and you wouldn't believe it but the colours in all the photos over about 40 years old were perfect for this collection ... they all worked so well! So I can definitely recommend this collection wanting to do vintage or heritage layouts as they work perfectly with older period photos.

The page itself was very beautiful to begin with... here is the original:

And as you can see I just added a some bits and pieces to it to compliment the photo. The main technique going on this page is the stamped background.
To create that effect I used a Kazzazz background stamp and filled the center dots with a white pearl pen... I just love the quilted look this gives.

Thanks for stopping by for a look.
Have a great day.
Cheers from Kelly-ann.

* I couldn't get this photo to present the right way!!!??? but I wanted to show you it anyway so you can see up close the 'Quilting effect'.   :)

Saturday Sketch #4 May 2013

Once again this week for the Saturday Sketch I have used the On This Day Collection
I just love it and can't seem to put it down! LOL

For todays sketch I decided to go with a beachy photo so I dragged out my old 'Off Shore' stamp set... who remembers that one?

It was one of the first collections that Kaisercraft started releasing in actual collections .... it is still one of my favourites to this day! Every time I need to make something that resembles the beach, out comes this particular wave stamp... nothing says surf to me more than this stamp!

The shell at the bottom is a more recent stamp from the 'Rockpool Collection'. The rest of the page is a lot of ink and scribble!!

It kind of resembles the Sketch ... I was following it, but got quite carried away.... It does look like it if you turn the sketch upside down and squint your eyes!? LOL

So here is the original Sketch from Kaisercraft...

Thanks for stopping by for a look.

Saturday Sketch #3 May 2013

For this weeks Sketch I've used the On This Day Collection.

This was quite a simple sketch and I couldn't help tizzing it up a bit! LOL

After doing this layout I now firmly believe I'm completely addicted to frames .. I was looking back over all my layouts for the year and sure enough they all have a frame or boarder around the edge of the page ... as it turns out I just can't live without a page frame! I've decided this is just going to have to be my thing now as I love pages done this way.

Anyway... theres not a lot of product on this page at all so it was a nice quick one to pull together.

I actually really like sketches like this that we can dress up ourselves... simple bases with unlimited potential! LOL

Thanks for stopping by for a look.

On This Day Layout

Ahhhh... Romance! The On This Day Collection is awesome.
I'm a sucker for all things to do with romance and I just couldn't resist doing the great big heart thing with this page!!

I have really gone to town with the inking on this layout and I must confess I think it's the element that really makes it ... giving it a more shaded and romantic feel than just the stark paper would if left alone.

Of course the pearl flourishes and soft muslin in the back ground help to create the romantic feel as well. I really love this quote and it suits the people in this photo perfectly which always helps!

All the flowery elements in this layout are from the collectables pack and the wood flourishes are all from Kaisercraft. Only that very cool harlequin background stamp is not from Kaisercraft... I got that from a friend who does Kazzazz ... it's so gorgeous! I find myself wanting to use it on every page I do!! LOL
Well thanks for stopping by for a look.
Have a great day.
Cheers from Kel.

Saturday Sketch #3 March 2013

For this weeks Sketch I have used the In The Attic Collection.
This was such a simple sketch to pull together ... i love those kinds of sketches!!

This vintage style collection is so lovely to work with, the bright reds and greens set of this black and white photo beautifully.

Again I have used more of the new printed tape from Kaisercraft which I just adore.

Here is the original sketch the layout is based on:

In The Attic Layout

So today I'm THRILLED to be showing off what would have to be my new favourite paper range... the divine In The Attic Collection!

oh how I love all these deep reds and browns with just a hint of lime greens mixed in here and there. I suspect I'm really showing my age now as all the old icons in this collection really are the bits and bobs I grew up with... the old vinals, leather bound books and especially those old suitcases!!

I actually chose these photos to go with these papers because I have some photos of myself as a baby sitting about with dads empty beer bottle trying to extract something from the bottom in order to work out what all the fuss was about this forbidden drink!!? And I've seen countless others over the years as well, it seems most parents will grab a camera and get a 'oh thats so cute' photo when the baby grabs a beer bottle, so running along those lines I decided this was a classic theme and needed a classic collection to make it work.

I can promise you that these kind of photos just never worked for me on the soft baby pastels or traditional pinks ... it's very difficult to make a page look pretty and pink when your subject is a kid with a green and red beer bottle! LOL

In any case i was very happy with how this turned out in the end, but I suppose these are my favourite colours so i was bound to fall head first into this one!!

Thanks for stopping by for a look.
Cheers from Kel.

Class with Melissa Kennedy...

While I was down in Melbourne last month I had the privilege of doing a class with the fabulous Melissa Kennedy from Kaisercraft and this is the layout we created with the Sears & Son Collection.
I came home with most of it finished and then added a few bits and pieces as I tend to do ... like the acetate clocks - they were a add in after the fact!

This new mens range is really earthy and gentle, it's great to play with and will suit and kind of vintage or heritage themes a person might want to work with.

On a personal note ... I can fully vouch that the handsome man in these photos really is the greatest dad ever!! LOL
Have a great day.
